Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed reigning F1 world champion Max Verstappen is the most high-profile name stored in his phone contacts.
Alexander-Arnold disclosed he has the Dutchman’s number during a Q&A video published on the Premier League’s YouTube channel.
When asked to share the most famous non-footballing contact on his phone, the Liverpool vice-captain responded: “Max Verstappen probably.”
The right-back has struck up an unlikely friendship with the Red Bull superstar despite their contrasting sporting backgrounds. Trent Alexander-Arnold has established himself as one of Europe’s top full-backs at Liverpool after rising through their youth academy.
Meanwhile, Verstappen has soared to stardom in Formula One, winning two straight world titles aged just 26.
The pair have plenty in common, including their rapid trajectories to the pinnacle of their respective sports at a young age.
Their mutual appreciation appears to have fostered a bond, albeit in two very different sporting arenas.
Verstappen is coming off a record-breaking 2022 season in which he claimed 18 podium finishes.
That surpassed previous benchmarks set by Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, and Sebastian Vettel.
Despite their contrasting backgrounds, Alexander-Arnold and Verstappen have proven themselves as wise heads on young shoulders during their meteoric rise.
The Liverpool star’s revelation indicates a cross-sport friendship has developed from that shared experience of early success.
While an unlikely pairing on paper, Alexander-Arnold boasting of Verstappen’s contact proves sporting brilliance transcends boundaries.
