Football Pundit Tam McManus has implored Scotland manager Steve Clarke to call up 17-year-old Liverpool starlet Ben Doak, believing the winger could provide “a wee bit of magic” for the national team.
In a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, by PLZ Soccer, the pundit adamantly stated Clarke needs to give Doak opportunities before the Euros. Speaking on PLZ Soccer’s football show via X, he argued that Doak’s “electric pace” gives Scotland an element lacking in their forward options.
‘He needs to, he needs to play him in the next couple of games. I think you need to have a look at him before the Euros.
You cannot just throw him into a tournament. I think Ben Doak could be the player that gives you that wee bit of stardust at the Euros.’
He suggested Ben Doak‘s flair could benefit a functional Scotland attack lacking spark. Doak joined Liverpool from Celtic in March 2022 and starred for the Reds U-21 that season. He has also played for the senior team.
The pundit believes Doak offers something unique compared to Scotland’s typical centre-forward targets. From what we have seen of him in a red shirt, Doak is an electric presence.
“He’s the one player that that could be a wee bit of magic for us. He could be something different.”
With Scotland already qualified for Euro 2024, the pundit feels the upcoming Nations League games present the perfect chance to blood Doak. Doing so would give the youngster’s confidence a world of good. It could fast-track his progress and also give Liverpool an assessment of his abilities against physically superior opponents.
“Now, you know we’re going, in my opinion, we’re going to finish second, but throw him in, throw him in Norway at home and Georgia away.”
Doak earned a Scotland U21 call-up in May aged just 16. His emergence has fostered optimism he could energize the senior side.
The passionate pundit clearly believes teenage talent Doak is ready for an opportunity to ignite Scotland, urging Clarke to see his stardust firsthand.
