Liverpool plans to challenge Chelsea for the signature of PSG star Kylian Mbappe

Liverpool are planning to battle Chelsea for the signature of Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe. PSG faces uncertainty regarding the future of the 24-year-old as his contract approaches expiration at the end of the season.

The Reds and Chelsea clashed for Brighton & Hove Albion defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo during the summer. The London club managed to lure Caicedo to Stamford Bridge with higher wages and a transfer offer. However, the defensive midfielder has faced massive criticism for his underwhelming performances so far this season.

The Reds are actively seeking a long-term successor for Mohamed Salah due to his strong links with Saudi Pro League clubs. The Saudi clubs might wish to return for the Liverpool legend in the 2024 summer transfer window with monstrous offers.

Mbappe has appeared in 269 matches for Ligue 1 giants PSG, contributing 220 goals and 98 assists in all competitions. The Champion’s League victory has alluded the Frenchman as he has achieved success in every major competition, he participated in.

Football.London reports that the foreign clubs will be eligible to start pre-contract talks with Mbappe from January 1st onwards. PSG need to decide if they want to lose Mbappe for free or cash in on him during the January window.

If the Reds are serious about signing Mbappe, they might face the hard decision of increasing the wage budget. The France international holds the title of the highest-paid footballer in Europe and anticipates receiving similar wages during his peak years.
