Journalist says Liverpool and Manchester City are among teams chasing 24-year-old goal machine

Salvatore Biazzo claims Liverpool and Manchester City are both interested in Victor Osimhen

Italian journalist Salvatore Biazzo claims Liverpool and Manchester City are both interested in signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The 24-year-old Nigerian has been in scintillating form this season, scoring six goals in 10 games across all competitions. His red-hot form has reportedly caught the eye of Premier League giants Liverpool and City.

When discussing Osimhen’s future in an interview covered by Siamoilnapoli, Biazzo revealed the English duo are admirers of the prolific Napoli marksman.

“Liverpool? In the Premier League there is a merciless fight between different teams with Arsenal, City and Tottenham.

Liverpool are a historic team and could want a striker like Osimhen.”

Osimhen is under contract at Napoli until 2025, but interest from the Premier League could tempt the Serie A club to cash in. However, Biazzo believes Liverpool in particular may struggle to finance a deal for the Nigerian goal machine.

“I see the financial exposure of English clubs and Liverpool are placed high in the ranking of those who have debts.”

The Reds already have a potentially supreme centre-forward in Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan was brought in for big investment and it makes little sense for us to go big once again for Osimhen.

Ever since signing from Lille to Napoli in 2020, Osimhen has netted 65 times in 111 matches. He has established himself as one of Europe’s top marksmen before injury curtailed his campaign. The Nigerian international suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty in a friendly against Saudi Arabia last week.

Liverpool are monitoring their striker options with Mohamed Salah on the verge of a possible high-ticket move to Al Ittihad next summer. Meanwhile, City may need reinforcements up front with Erling Haaland’s long-term future uncertain.

Both clubs would provide an intriguing next step for Osimhen if he decides to leave Naples behind after three seasons. But prising him away could prove prohibitively expensive, even for England’s financial powerhouses.
