Liverpool-linked Perr Schuurs playing for Torino is set to undergo surgery after ACL injury

In their quest to strengthen or rather, completely revamp their midfield which had grown old over the past few seasons, Liverpool had to make some sacrifices and one of them was to push back their plan to strengthen their central defence with someone like Perr Schuurs.

Schuurs is obviously not the only option on the Reds’ shortlist but he definitely would have been an excellent one. The former Ajax defender has caught the eye of one and all with his performances for Torino in the Serie A.

The Italian top-flight is always one known to produce the best centre-backs in the world and Schuurs is yet another name who is really making it count in Turin. That said, the Dutch defender will not expect to stay there forever.

Considering his performances and the ceiling that seems to have in the game, it was only a matter of time before Premier League clubs come swarming and Liverpool are just one of those to showcase interest in him.

Had things gone according to plan, Schuurs would have been a hot prospect in the January transfer market. However, he is now set to have a few painful months away from the game due to an injury.

Sadly for Schuurs, he has injured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament which will see him miss at least six months of footballing action if not more, and has effectively thrown a January move out of question, according to Liverpool Echo.

Teams will also be wary of signing him next summer as not everyone recovers completely from such an injury. The chance for a drop-off in performance and never being able to hit those heights again is a possibility.

Liverpool definitely need a new centre-back in January or next summer. Virgil van Dijk is still solid but far-off the levels he was before. Joel Matip has the tendency to blow hot and cold and Ibrahima Konate seems to be stalling.

If Perr Schuurs returns from the injury and can show the same levels as before, there is no reason why we mustn’t sign him. We can only wait and see how this situation unfolds though.
