Fiorentina ace Nicolas Gonzalez brands Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah the best in his position in world football
Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah continues to hold sway as the best right-winger in world football and it is a stane that is backed by Fiorentina star Nicolas Gonzalez.
The Argentine international has been with Salah’s former side, Fiorentina since 2021. While he has not shared a pitch with the Egyptian ace, he will be familiar with Salah’s exploits during his brief yet impactful stint with La Viola.
The 31-year-old moved to Fiorentina from Chelsea on an 18-month loan in February 2015 but returned to Stamford Bridge a mere six months later. During that time, he made 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and assisting four more. Despite La Viola being keen to sign him permanently, Salah and Chelsea had other plans. Despite that, it is difficult for anyone associated with the Serie A club to dismiss what was an impactful short stint.
Gonzalez, now at Fiorentina is a right-winger just like Salah and will be familiar with the top players in the world in his position. Speaking to ESPN, the Argentine revealed that he tried to model his game on another South American ace- Angel Di Maria. But then he went on to add that the best player in world football in the role is Salah.
The Liverpool star has redefined the role of a goalscoring winger in the game, putting up spectacular numbers that will put strikers to shame. Salah’s ability to not just stretch defences but also score and create opportunities on a prolific scale is generation-defining, to say the least. There is little doubt that when he does leave Anfield, he will depart a club legend.
Gonzalez’s words once again prove just how highly regarded Salah is among his peers. Despite being 31, the Egyptian King continues to go strong and still has several years left at the top. The last remaining member from Jurgen Klopp’s vaunted front three at Liverpool, Salah continues to hold the flag aloft for African football.
He still has time to craft more stories in club folklore and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him beyond the 2023-24 season. Should he move on, Gonzalez’s words once again remind us that the recruitment team have a huge task on their hands to replace the Egyptian.

Whether Gonzalez is the man to replace Salah is debatable. The Reds have titled towards signing South Americans of late and the Fiorentina star is a decent option indeed. A right-winger himself, he has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Chelsea in recent times. Salah joined Liverpool at the age of 25 and went on to take his game to new heights in red. Gonzalez is 25 now. Surely, history cannot repeat itself twice.
