“He was going to play”- Diogo Jota on celebrating with Luis Diaz’s shirt in Liverpool’s win over Nottingham Forest

Liverpool star Diogo Jota talks about Luis Diaz and celebrating with his shirt in win against Nottingham

Liverpool secured a famous 3-0 win over Nottingham at Anfield with Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah scoring for the Reds. But what was easily the most beautiful moment of the game was Diogo celebrating his goal with the shirt of Luis Diaz.

Lucho, who was in place to start the game against Steve Cooper’s men had to withdraw from the squad at the last moment following the extremely unfortunate kidnapping of his parents in Colombia. Diogo started in place of the 26-year-old and opened the scoring to stamp his authority on the game as well.

Jota immediately ran towards the dugout after putting the ball behind the net, took Luis Diaz’s jersey from the bench and held it up, showing his respect and solidarity with Lucho during these tough moments for him outside of football.

“Luis was with us in the hotel then he went home. It’s a very hard situation and I don’t know how anyone would react if it happened to you.”

“He was going to play. I played instead of him and I showed him his shirt to show we’re with him and we hope everything works out.”

“It’s unimaginable to think a situation like this could happen. We can just support him and show him we’re with him.”

According to the latest update

on the situation, Diaz’s mother has been safely rescued while the efforts to find his father are still in process. The Colombian president deployed the army in an effort to find Lucho’s father.
