Liverpool keeping tabs on 25-year-old Serie A winger as potential Salah replacement

Liverpool are eyeing a move for Fiorentina winger Nicolas Gonzalez

Mohamed Salah has constantly seen himself linked with a move away from the Reds to the Saudi Pro League. While the Merseysiders surely don’t see the Egyptian King heading out of the club anytime soon, it is a conversation that we cannot stall for a lot of time given the finances involved. Keeping in mind all of this, Liverpool eye a move for Nicolas Gonzalez of Fiorentina.

The 25-year-old Argentine could prove to be a long-term replacement for Mo in case he decides to leave the club over the summer. Either way, irrespective of that, we actually need to explore the market for someone who can take the baton over from him, and Gonzalez has emerged as a potential replacement.

The Argentine described Salah as the best player in the world in his position at present. The former Stuttgart man’s admiration for Salah is clear, and it has certainly sparked curiosity about how he envisions his own future if Liverpool comes knocking.

In a recent interview with ESPN via liverpool.com, Gonzalez was full of praise for Salah. The same source also claims that the Reds show interest in securing the services of the player.

Gonzalez to the Reds?

One thing is evident: if Liverpool were to make a move for Gonzalez, he would undoubtedly play a secondary role to Salah, one of the most prolific and dynamic forwards in world football. However, at 25 years old, Gonzalez stands at an interesting crossroads in his career. The prospect of learning from a player of Salah’s calibre could surely be an enticing proposition for the Argentine.

Nicolas Gonzalez has had a commendable season so far, making 13 appearances across all competitions for Fiorentina. In that time, he has found the back of the net seven times and provided two assists.

Nicolas Gonzalez could prove to be a smart successor to Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.

What makes Gonzalez an intriguing prospect for Liverpool is his style of play, which aligns well with Jurgen Klopp’s attacking philosophy. He possesses directness, great finishing ability, and a penchant for cutting in from the right flank onto his favoured left foot similar to what Mo does.

It’s worth noting that Salah himself had a spell with Fiorentina in the past before making his way to Roma and eventually, Liverpool. The Egyptian’s journey from Florence to Anfield is a testament to the kind of impact playing for a top European club can have on a player’s career. If Gonzalez were to make a similar transition, he could potentially follow in the footsteps of one of the best in the world.
