Inter Milan and Juventus are both eyeing a 2024 move for Liverpool ace Thiago Alcantara
Two of Italian football’s biggest clubs, Inter Milan and Juventus, are eyeing a potential Bosman move for Liverpool’s midfield maestro, Thiago Alcantara, as his contract with the Reds approaches its end in preparation for the 2024 summer transfer window.
Since his arrival at Anfield in 2020, the Spanish midfielder has showcased his immense talent on the pitch. But a series of injuries have unfortunately hindered his ability to take to the field regularly, adversely affecting his contributions to Jurgen Klopp’s plans.
While the Reds’ boss holds the Spanish international in high regard and would ideally like to retain his services, there have been no discussions regarding a contract extension as of yet. Liverpool, known for their willingness to part ways with ageing players, bid adieu to several senior midfield stars in the 2023 summer transfer window. Time will tell whether Thiago will soon join that list.
Despite being 32 years old and battling persistent injuries, Thiago Alcantara remains a world-class player who can turn on the heat on his day. More so, with the Reds bringing in several young midfield stars as part of their revamp, Thiago has taken on more of a mentorship role thanks to his success and experience in the field.
However, with no new contract currently in sight, the 32-year-old’s future is open to interpretation. According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, this has captured the attention of Inter Milan and Juventus, who are contemplating a move for him should he become a free agent in the summer of 2024.
Securing Thiago’s services would be a substantial coup for either Inter Milan or Juventus. Serie A, a league known for its slower pace and reduced physical demands in comparison to the Premier League, could provide the ideal environment for Thiago to extend his career without putting his body under strain. More so, both Inter and Juventus will also aid him in his ambition to add more silverware to his collection.
Should Thiago be let go, Wataru Endo will become the seniormost player on the Reds’ midfield roster. The Japanese skipper is a leader and a fighter and is certainly a positive influence on the side. However, Thiago operates at a different stratosphere and has a history of success at big clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
More so, the 32-year-old also gets what it means to don the Liverpool jersey. While his injuries limit his availability on the field, his influence extends far beyond the matches and it would be foolhardy for the club to dispense with the leadership vacuum. It makes sense for us to extend his contract even if it comes at the cost of regular playtime. After all, the lessons he can teach the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Stefan Bajcetic, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, DOmikik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister are invaluable.
