Liverpool ace Alisson Becker extends support to Luis Diaz as he copes with his father’s kidnapping
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has offered his unwavering support to teammate Luis Diaz as the forward struggles amid his father’s kidnapping. Diaz recently returned to Colombia after his father was abducted by rebels back home.
He scored on his first game back for Liverpool against Luton, but didn’t celebrate and instead lifted his shirt to reveal a message reading “Freedom For Dad.” The Brazilian shot-stopper Alisson admitted he was unable to comprehend the turmoil Diaz must be facing with his father held captive.

‘I can’t imagine what he’s going through.
We’re supporting him and feeling his pain but for him it’s a different level. Football can bring joy to someone who is struggling. Football is bringing joy to Luis at this moment.’
He praised Diaz’s courage and maturity in performing admirably despite the horrific circumstances weighing on him. Diaz showed immense inner strength to focus and make a positive contribution upon his return.
Thankfully, the rebel group responsible for the kidnapping have since pledged to release Diaz’s father soon. The guerilla group released a statement saying that they will release Diaz’s father ‘as soon as possible‘.
That will come as an enormous relief after days of anguish for the Liverpool star’s family. Alisson rightly commended Diaz for channeling his emotions into his football to aid the team.
Diaz scored Liverpool’s equalizer in the final seconds of the game and saved Liverpool’s face. Following the goal, the Colombian’s goal celebration underlined how his father’s safety remains his sole priority.
Diaz has earned huge respect for handling the trauma with such composure and professionalism. It has been said that Diaz personally insisted manager Jurgen Klopp to include him for the Luton clash.
