Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah ensured that Liverpool moved to second spot in the Premier League after their convincing 3-0 win over Brentford at Anfield on Sunday night.

Salah scored on either side of the half-time break before Jota curled in a fine finish late on to put the game beyond doubt. While the win was a welcome relief following a run of two games without a victory, Salah’s brace also saw him enter an elite list.

The Egyptian’s second of the night saw him notch up his 200th goal in English football. It is pretty incredible that he has taken just 341 games to achieve this feat, 322 with Liverpool and 19 at Chelsea.

While Salah scored his first two goals in England for Chelsea, the remaining 198 have come in the Red of Liverpool. Still just 31, he is far from done and should add to that tally in the months and years to come. Jota, for his part, has received a front-seat view to the Egyptian making history and was effusive in his praise of the superstar after the game.

Speaking to Premier League Productions (h/t BBC), the Portuguese ace paid tribute to Salah and his achievement. A constant goal threat, it is still incredible that he has managed his feat in just his seventh year as a Liverpool star.

“He is always there, is a goal threat, creates chances and is really important for us like everyone knows. Congratulations to him on his 200th goal.”

The 31-year-old has an excellent appetite for goals. He stayed switched on in the buildup to the second goal while the Brentford defence went to sleep. In the end, VAR proved Salah right and he celebrated the landmark goal with his trademark smile.

The Liverpool ace is now just two strikes short of his 200th goal for the club. He has so far netted 147 Premier League goals, 44 in Europe, five strikes in the FA Cup and one apiece in the FA Cup and the Community Shield. The fact that he did all this in just 322 appearances in Red speaks volumes about his consistency.

Salah is the third-highest goalscorer in Liverpool history and is all set to become just the third player in Red to cross the 200-goal threshold for the club. He is now just two strikes short of joining club icons Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. In the years to come, Salah too will be seen as nothing short of a deity at Anfield, that is if he isn’t already.
