Alisson’s Brazil start a mixed blessing for Liverpool with Ederson injured

Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker has been handed a start for Brazil against Colombia and Argentina after Manchester City’s Ederson withdrew from the squad due to injury according to Liverpool Echo. While an opportunity for Alisson, this poses potential problems for Liverpool.

Ederson picked up a foot issue during City’s 4-4 draw with Chelsea on Sunday. With the injury serious enough to rule him out of international duty, Alisson will replace his Premier League rival as Brazil’s starter.

For Liverpool, this is a mixed blessing. On one hand, Alisson regaining the Brazil No.1 spot boosts his confidence ahead of a crucial Premier League clash between Liverpool and City on November 25th.

Ederson had displaced Alisson as the first choice for Brazil since the 2022 World Cup. Now Alisson can stake his claim to be his nation’s keeper in the upcoming friendlies.

However, his heavy workload is a concern. The long travels to South America for two tough games right before the biggest club match of Liverpool’s season is far from ideal preparation.

With a grueling schedule ahead, Liverpool will hope Alisson returns healthy and focused for the City showdown. But any injury or fatigue suffered on Brazil duty could harm his performance.

Compared to Ederson remaining in Manchester to recover, Alisson faces a much more demanding fortnight. Liverpool will hold their breath that their star emerges unscathed.

Alisson recapturing the Brazil starting job would be a big personal accomplishment. But the risk of physical issues from hardly any rest between games makes this a nervous period for the Reds.

Ideally, Liverpool would prefer Alisson be protected ahead of the potentially season-defining City clash. However, national duty comes first at the moment, and Fernando Diniz will expect strong showings from his first-choice keeper.

For now, Alisson has the chance to prove why he deserves to be Brazil’s long-term number one. But Liverpool will count down the days until their world-class keeper is back safely in Merseyside.
