Brentford keen to retain Ivan Toney amid links with a move to Liverpool

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has expressed his desire for star striker Ivan Toney to remain at the club beyond the January transfer window, despite reported interest from top Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

Toney, who is currently serving an eight-month suspension for breaching the FA’s betting rules, remains set to make a return to action on January 17. Frank emphasised the importance of Toney to Brentford and his optimism about the striker’s commitment to the club.

The Brentford manager highlighted Toney’s impressive performances in the previous season. He scored 20 goals in the Premier League in 33 appearances and had been in top form before the unfortunate suspension.

However, Frank hopes to see Toney at the club beyond the transfer deadline as his contributions would surely help propel Brentford’s chances of a higher finish in the Premier League. Here is what the manager had to say about the Englishman via the Evening Standard:

“Everyone saw what he did last year. It’s not like he broke a leg or did his ACL, so he’s fit and probably even more ambitious to get success. I’m convinced he will be absolutely on it.”

“I don’t want to lose him. I hope, and think, he’ll be a Brentford player on February 1.”

Toney’s goal-scoring prowess and all-around attacking abilities played a significant role in Brentford’s success, particularly in their promotion to the Premier League. Frank acknowledged the striker’s fitness and determination, suggesting that Toney‘s return would add an extra dimension to Brentford’s attacking options.

Could Toney move to the Reds?

Despite the interest from high-profile clubs including Liverpool, Frank made it clear that he is not keen on losing Toney. He expressed hope that the 27-year-old forward would remain a Brentford player beyond the January transfer window.

Frank’s comments certainly reflect the value Toney holds for Brentford and the manager’s confidence in the striker’s commitment to the club’s ambitions. Toney’s potential availability after his suspension could attract attention from top-flight clubs seeking a proven goal-scorer. The Reds have a proven and formidable frontline and we could probably do without a striker at this point.

As the January transfer window approaches, the speculation surrounding Toney’s future is likely to intensify. However, Brentford fans will be hopeful that the club can retain their star striker, allowing him to contribute to their ongoing Premier League campaign and beyond.
