Liverpool eye a move for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha

Liverpool would not have seen this today in case his move to Bayern Munich went ahead on deadline day earlier this summer, but a few issues saw Joao Palhinha stay at Fulham.

He has been a thorn in Marco Silva’s side this season. The 28-year-old Portuguese international has easily been one of Fulham’s most consistent players this season, as was the case last term as well. Following the interest in Andre Trindade fading away, Liverpool have eyed a move for Palhinha in January.

While Bayern would undoubtedly have a crack at securing his services in the upcoming transfer window, unlike the summer, this time, they will have to face competition from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United alongside Liverpool. Gonna be a tough one for all the parties involved, this.

Joao Palhinha would prove to be a top-class addition to a Liverpool side that needs a defensive midfielder like him.

That is as per TEAMtalk via ECHO. The first-half performance against Crystal Palace away from home was enough proof that the Reds need a world-class defensive midfielder guarding the backline. While Wataru Endo has had his positives so far, the negatives unfortunately have outweighed his convincing performances this season.

Palhinha to the Reds?

Enter Palhinha. The former Sporting man has witnessed Liverpool’s success from close quarters and would want to join a champion team like ours. We don’t have the likes of Leon Goretzka or Joshua Kimmich who will pose a big threat to his playing minutes on Merseyside.

The player is very similar to a like-to-like replacement for Fabinho who departed Liverpool earlier this summer. The added benefit with Palhinha is the fact that he can play advanced roles comfortably as well while retaining the tag of a defensively aware midfielder. Just for context, Palhinha has made 90 recoveries this season and has won 114 duels as well. 35 Premier League tackles compared to Levels.

As Liverpool navigate the competitive landscape for Palhinha’s services, the January transfer window promises intriguing developments.
