Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah shares his ambition to prove his mettle in the team
Liverpool’s defence took a hit after its veteran defender Joel Matip had to cede to an ACL injury that curtailed his season. Thankfully, the Reds had a readymade replacement in the English footballer and academy graduate, Jarell Quansah.
Having joined the Reds senior roster this season, the promising youngster scored his first senior goal for the club in the Europa League on December 14, 2023. Owing to his aptitude on the field, Quansah has become a regular on Jurgen Klopp’s roster for the Europa League and the Premier League.
Speaking to LFCTV (h/t Mirror), the 20-year-old shared his eagerness to contribute to the team saying,
“At the start of the season when I stayed and didn’t go on loan, I thought ‘I want to play in these games’. Obviously, it’s a shame what happened to Joel and my condolences to him, but my idea was to try and get over him anyway and try and be a starting centre-back in the Premier League. Hopefully, more opportunities come, I’m just really trying to push on and be the best centre-back I can.”
Liverpool’s defence has not been the stronger suit this season. They have played in the philosophy of “You score three, I’ll score four”. That said, with Matip’s injury, Quansah will undoubtedly keep getting more game time to prove himself.
The void left behind by Matip could serve as an opportunity for young talent like Quansah to rise to the occasion and prove their worth whilst gaining crucial experience. Quansah has ambitiously risen up the ranks at the club.
