Harry Redknapp predicts pivotal Anfield role for Liverpool ace deemed too good not to play

Harry Redknapp made huge claims about Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones after his Man of the Match performance against West Ham

Harry Redknapp asserted that Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones can play regularly for any team in the Premier League. Jones played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s win 5-1 over West Ham in the Carling Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Liverpool dominated the home game with 67% possession and 29 shots to reach the tournament’s semi-final. Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoreline with a fantastic long-range hit in the 28th minute of the game.

Curtis opened his account for the season in a 58th-minute close-range finish while Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah added more. The 22-year-old scored the last game of the match in the 84th

minute to cap off his fantastic performance.

Redknapp told Sky Sports that Jones has the quality to play regularly for any team in the Premier League. He said:

“He could walk into almost any team in the Premier League and play regularly. But he obviously wants to stay there, win his place at Liverpool and it looks to me it’s only a matter of time before he gets that regular berth in the team. He looks too good not to play.”

Curtis has made 16 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, contributing with two goals and three assists this season. The 22-year-old has solidified his place in Liverpool’s senior team squad under the manager Jurgen Klopp.

Jones has struggled with nagging injuries since last season, missing many games in the process which hampered his development. The England U21 has missed five games this season due to thigh problems and ankle injuries. Furthermore, he served a three-match red card suspension after a controversial red card decision in the match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Klopp rebuilt the Liverpool midfield during the summer transfer window, letting go of long-serving players past their peak. The Reds bought Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo to bolster their midfield.

All the signings have contributed significantly to the good form as Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League. The tough competition has not hampered Curtis’ rise at all as he has featured significantly when available.

The 22-year-old has received criticism for dwelling too much on the ball and playing it too safe at times. The Kopites hold a strong admiration for Curtis, hoping he becomes a successful long-term midfielder at the club. The youngster’s talent are not a secret since his days in the Liverpool academy and it’s a delight to see him fulfil his potential.
