Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool aren’t seriously interested in signing Goncalo Inacio
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has finally spoken about Liverpool’s links with Goncalo Inacio and says the Reds’ interest isn’t concrete.
It is understood that the Reds have long been keen on bringing Inacio to Anfield, as he has been Jurgen Klopp’s number-one target.
The Portuguese centre-back has been linked with a move to Anfield since 2023, as journalist Steve Kay told EOTK Insider. Since then, Liverpool have been rumoured to be making a move for him.
At a young age, Inacio has been Sporting CP’s top centre-back, making 14 appearances this season, and his emergence from the Portuguese club has alerted top clubs.
However, the Reds’ defence has been rock solid this season, but given that Virgil van Dijk is in his early 30s, Liverpool will certainly look for his replacement. However, the club will look for options, but as of now, Inacio doesn’t seem to be a concrete option after Romano told Kick:
“Goncalo Inacio to Liverpool? We’ve had this story on Inacio and Liverpool for three or four years. We hear that Liverpool are close to signing Inacio, but it’s usually the same person linking Inacio to Liverpool. At the moment, I’m not aware of a change. He’s a player they have scouted for a long time, but it’s not something concrete.”
Currently, we have only Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as our only fit centre-backs, and given that the Dutch defender is in his 30s, we will need to look for his replacement. Joel Matip is injured, while academy graduate Jarell Quansah has been pretty decent, and Klopp will certainly need a defender this January.
We have done well this season in defence compared to last campaign, but we will need more depth if we want to compete in the Premier League this campaign and the 22-year-old defender could be a great addition to the team given his this season’s performance.
