Diogo Jota assesses the progress he’s made as a footballer since joining Liverpool in 2020
Liverpool’s ace winger Diogo Jota joined the Anfield side on a long-term deal in 2020 after three seasons with Wolverhampton. The 27-year-old was good with possession and was an instinctive runner whose style of play synced well with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s system.
Since joining Klopp’s side, the Portuguese forward has established himself as a key player that fans can root for. Jota is tied in second place with fellow forward Darwin Nunez just behind the leading Mo Salah for the maximum goals scored in the current season of the Premier League.
As quoted by Liverpool FC. com, Jota shared his introspective thoughts on his progress during his time at the Anfield side by saying:
“For sure I’m not the same player that stepped in the door for the first time three or four years ago almost. I think I’m better now, I understand the game better, I feel like I’m properly at home and every time I step on the pitch I know what it means to these fans and what I have to do to help the team win football games, and that in the end is what everyone wants.”
Diogo Jota has come a long way since his days with the Wolves
The Reds winger was the first-ever Wolves player to score a hat trick in the Premier League. By establishing himself as a star player for Gary O’Neil’s club, he was able to garner the attention of the Premier League top flights before ultimately settling down in Merseyside.
Jota has played in all three positions in the front line since joining the Reds. Klopp’s men lead the Premier League rankings currently and the Portuguese player’s natural fit with his fellow teammates at the front line to form a formidable system of attack is one of the key attributes for this.

The left-winger’s knack for creating spaces allows for easier passing amongst the forwards. In most of his appearances for the Reds, he can be seen adapting to any role near the opposition’s goal to block the latter’s forwards.
As Klopp strives to put together a strong roster post the departure of key players like Wataru Endo and Mo Salah and the absences related to injuries like those of the team’s captain Andy Roberston, Kostas Tsimikas and Joel Matip, Jota’s versatility becomes even more imperative for the Reds to maintain their dominance in the league.
