Liverpool ready six-man list as they gear up for transfer season

Even though the January window offers a great chance for Liverpool to gap any bridges in the squad, the Reds are eyeing the summer window of 2024 to make big moves in the market.

Jurgen Klopp’s side remain ready to move for players in the January transfer window but are prioritising the summer, as they draw up a six-man target list for the end of the season as per CaughtOffside via ECHO.

While the primary focus is on reinforcing the squad for the 2023/24 season, there’s a possibility of speeding up the acquisition of an additional attacker in January due to Mohamed Salah’s absence during the Africa Cup of Nations and potentially, the signing of a defensive midfielder as well, taking into consideration Wataru Endo’s absence during the AFC Asian Cup.

The six players are Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio, OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram, Monchengladbach’s versatile midfielder Manu Kone, Schalke wonder-kid Assan Ouedraogo, PSV winger Johan Bakayoko and Wolves star player Pedro Neto.

Potential signings for Liverpool

All of these players have been regular features on the Reds’ transfer radar in the last 12 months. Inacio, in particular, saw himself linked with a move to the Reds when Jurgen Klopp‘s side were shipping one goal too many. The potential acquisition of a central defender like Inacio will go a long way in shaping the Reds’ trajectory given he can also feature as a left-back, which offers the manager a lot of tactical flexibility.

Similarly, Liverpool had constant links with a move for the trio of Kone, Thuram and Ouedraogo earlier this season before the Reds went on to sign the four midfielders that they did over the summer window. There remains a chance for the Reds to explore a move for either of these three this window, and among these, Kone would suit Liverpool the most considering his natural instincts as a defensive midfielder.

Bakayoko’s inclusion on the list indicates a focus on enhancing attacking options. Bakayoko’s pace and flair could complement Liverpool’s style of play, providing a different dimension in the final third. Moreover, the potential fast-tracking of an attacker in January might involve Wolves’ Pedro Neto. With Mohamed Salah’s absence during the Africa Cup of Nations, securing Neto could provide a timely boost to Liverpool’s attacking options.

The Portuguese international has loads of experience in the Premier League and is in top form as well. He has a goal and nine assists in 12 appearances this season.
