Manchester City closing in on Liverpool target who has played under Pep Guardiola before

Manchester City close in on Liverpool target Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich

As the summer transfer window approaches, the race for top-class talent intensifies, with Premier League giants, including Liverpool, eyeing a move for Bayern Munich’s midfield maestro Joshua Kimmich.

The 28-year-old’s contract situation could present a golden opportunity for clubs to secure a cut-price deal, with the asking price potentially dropping from £50m to around £25m.

According to the Daily Star, Premier League trio Liverpool, Manchester United and City are all monitoring Kimmich’s situation, as they look to secure a cut-price deal for the defensive midfielder.

Joshua Kimmich will likely induce a bidding war between Liverpool and Manchester City.

Kimmich, who will enter the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich at the end of the 2023/24 season (Transfermarkt), has attracted interest from the three Premier League giants mentioned earlier. The Reds, in particular, see the versatile German international as a key target, given his ability to excel in both defensive midfield and right-back roles.

Kimmich to the Reds?

While City and United are also monitoring Kimmich’s situation, the player reportedly has a strong desire to reunite with former manager Pep Guardiola, who coached him during his time at Bayern Munich. Guardiola, known for his admiration of Kimmich’s skills, could play a pivotal role in the player’s decision-making process.

Despite City already boasting Rodri in a similar position, Kimmich’s versatility and world-class capabilities make him an attractive prospect for any top-tier club. Liverpool, in particular, could benefit significantly from the addition of a player of Kimmich’s calibre, offering depth and quality in key areas of the pitch. More importantly, it will help unlock the creative side of Trent Alexander-Arnold to a greater extent than now.

Liverpool are desperate for a presence like Joshua Kimmich in the middle of the park.

Kimmich’s ability to contribute defensively and provide an attacking threat adds a dynamic dimension to Liverpool’s midfield, enhancing the team’s overall balance. The waiting game until summer appears to be a calculated move by Manchester City, who are also interested in Kimmich but currently have Rodri occupying a similar role. The prospect of securing Kimmich at a reduced price adds an element of financial prudence to the negotiations, making the deal more appealing to potential suitors.

Kimmich’s proven quality could potentially pave the way for an exciting addition to Liverpool’s midfield ranks in the upcoming season. Tough to lure him from not reuniting with his former manager though. Time will tell everything.
