AFCON watch: Liverpool star comes up with brilliant first-time assist in Egypt’s warm up clash against Tanzania but his penalty woes continue

Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah continues the productive form for his nation as Egypt played warm-up game against Tanzania in AFCON

Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah bagged a brilliant assist during Egypt’s warm-up clash against Tanzania in AFCON. The Egypt captain also missed a penalty which ended up at the back of the net after hitting the goalkeeper.

Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table and have progressed in every competition. Salah has played a crucial role in the Reds’ successful first half of the season, surprising fans and pundits.

After last season’s struggle, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revamped his squad with fresh faces as ageing players departed. He dubbed the team “Liverpool 2.0” while many core players from the previous team stayed, including Salah.

Klopp changed the 31-year-old’s role and responsibility at the right flank during the current season and Salah adapted brilliantly. The Egyptian has focused more on linkup plays and creativity than his usual reliance on his dribbling and pace.

Salah has been the most productive player in the Liverpool team and also in the Premier League as a whole. The 31-year-old has contributed 18 goals and nine assists from 27 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

On 2nd January, Squawka reported that Salah has dominated the Premier League in most goals and assists alongside other stats. The Egyptian played his last Liverpool game against Newcastle United in the Reds’ 4-2 Premier League victory.

The 31-year-old missed a penalty during the first half of the game but returned strongly in the second half. He scored two goals, one being a penalty and delivered a spectacular assist for a goal from Cody Gakpo.

FourFourTwo and fotmob writer Jack Lusby used X to share Salah’s brilliant assist in the warmup friendly against Tanzania. Lusby also shared the missed penalty from the Egypt captain as the ball luckily deflected into the goal.

The Egypt captain backs himself during the penalties despite missing 10 penalties in his entire football career. The 31-year-old has scored 38 penalties throughout his career, and it is highly unlikely that he would give up being the primary penalty taker.

The Kopites hope that both Liverpool and Salah can enjoy success until the Egyptian makes his triumphant return from ACFON. The Reds play Fulham in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals, hoping to continue their progress.
