James Milner sheds light on how Jurgen Klopp has changed at the helm of Liverpool
James Milner believes that Jurgen Klopp’s character has completely changed during his time at the helm of Liverpool. Milner spent eight years playing under the German coach before his time at the club came to an end in 2023.
Milner’s exploits at Anfield are no small feat. The English midfielder played a pivotal part during the club’s rise to glory and won the Champions League, The Premier League, one FA Cup and the Carabao Cup during his time with the team.
The English midfielder played a staggering 332 games for the Reds, throughout his time there he 26 goals for the team while also recording 46 assists. However, his numbers don’t do justice to his quality as a player.
Milner while talking on Jeff Stelling’s podcast revealed that Jurgen Klopp has mellowed out during his time at the helm. He says that the German manager has slowly learned to trust the team after adjusting to the football in England.

“I think he had ideas about players and maybe English players as well, they like to drink a lot, don’t prepare well and I think he saw with the squad he had that it wasn’t like that and if players got a day off they would look after themselves. To his credit, he changed things and softened as time went on, but never lost his edge.
Jurgen Klopp’s ability to change and adapt to his situations paid off in a big way when the team lifted their first Premier League title in over three decades back in 2020.
