Liverpool target Momodou Sonko talks about a potential move to the Reds
Swedish left-winger Momodou Sonko of BK Hacken represents a growing stock in European football. Amid his good form in recent seasons, he has seen himself linked with a move to the likes of Liverpool and FC Barcelona.
At only 18 years of age, Sonko has racked up 44 appearances at club level already. He has 14 goals and eight assists to boot. Amid his form, according to the Express, the Reds, alongside Catalan giants Barca also see themselves linked with a move for the teenage sensation. He is not new on the Reds’ radar as he was subject to a trial, back in 2017.
Sonko recently spoke about talks of a potential move and how friends and family are suggesting divergent paths. Here is what he told Sportbladet via Express:
“I have some who are Liverpool fans and some Barca fans,”
“They want me to go to the club they support. It’s kind of funny. I get a lot written to me from my friends. It’s fun at first but it can be too much too.”
Sonko remains contractually bound to his current employers until 2025 (Transfermarkt). His style of play also aligns seamlessly with Liverpool’s footballing ethos. An inverted winger, Sonko mirrors the attacking flair of Liverpool’s own Luis Diaz, utilizing express pace on the wings and cutting inside with finesse.
For the Reds, securing Sonko’s signature could certainly shape the club’s long-term future. His versatility to feature on either wing presents a strategic investment in the club’s future. As Liverpool also venture into the market in search of a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, Sonko is a player the Reds should surely keep an eye out for.
Very recently, Hacken sporting director Martin Ericsson talked about the Reds’ interest in an exclusive talk with Fotbollskanalen implying he would command a sizeable transfer fee. Let’s see how things go in the next week or so.
