Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards praised the development of Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott, highlighting the experience he has accumulated already. Elliott has continued to be an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad as they push for every trophy.
Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table and they have successfully progressed in every cup competition. Furthermore, the Reds have reached the Final of the Carabao Cup as they face their bitter London rivals, Chelsea.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revamped the squad during the summer, adding numerous quality midfielders. Nevertheless, Elliott has maintained his position in the new-look squad, producing important performances whenever he receives the chance.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Richards highlighted the development of Elliott since his time at Fulham. He said:
“He’s a quality player. When he was at Fulham, there were whispers around ‘Who’s this whiz kid, he’s left-footed, can play number 10, can play on the wings, can score goals’. Then, when he came to Liverpool, he’s got everything but because he’s sort of in a team which have been challenging for the Premier League and the Champions League, it’s always going to be difficult. But now, he’s approaching 100 games? 100 games for Liverpool, that is massive. I really love him as a talent. I just hope he’s got all the tools to go to the next stage because sometimes it’s very difficult when a team’s constantly competing at the highest level. But I rate him so highly. He’s got everything.”
Liverpool signed Elliott for £4.3mil from Fulham in the summer of 2019, a record for the then 16-year-old. Elliot became the youngest-ever player to start a match in Liverpool’s history in the Carabao Cup match against MK Dons.
The 20-year-old has continued his impressive development as he made an early climb to the senior level. Harvey has made 97 appearances for the Reds already, contributing with seven goals and six assists.
Elliott has developed on and off the field, gaining maturity and level-headedness since working under Klopp. The Englishman showed his versatility at the senior level, playing in central midfield despite being a right-winger.
The 20-year-old has made 31 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season, contributing with a goal and two assists. He acts as a backup for prolific Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah and is also one of the key midfielders in the squad.
Elliott has made a positive impact from the bench this, including scoring the winning goal against Crystal Palace in September. The 20-year-old has a long career ahead but the level of experience he has already gained showed the impressive talent he possesses.
