Former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp understands the predicament that made Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp decide to step back
Legendary Premier League manager Harry Redknapp concurred with the reason that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provided for his upcoming departure. Klopp announced that he has decided to step back from the Liverpool manager role at the end of the season.
The 56-year-old explained that he feels burnt out and lacks the energy to justify his ability to carry on. The German opted to inform the upper hierarchy of the club, waiting for the right moment to announce his decision.
Klopp’s decision shocked the footballing world and Liverpool fans have struggled to come to terms with the news. However, fans understand the predicament their beloved manager is facing and adore him for all his achievements and lessons.
Redknapp told the iNews (h/t Teamtalk) that Klopp needs a break despite looking fine in front of the cameras. He said:
“When you’re earning that money, everyone says ‘oh your life is amazing’. He just obviously feels he needs a break. You wouldn’t believe it looking at him. I watched him the other night when they won at Fulham, that big smile was there, he was loving it still. But underneath you don’t know. Pep [Guardiola] did it, he took a year off and came back. He’ll come back and every club in the world will want him. There’s just no escape anymore, social media, TV. “
The 76-year-old further elaborated on the differences between the responsibilities manager had during his time, compared to nowadays. He said:
“When I first started, the only interviews you did was a couple of papers who would stand in the tunnel. Then suddenly Sky comes in, there’s press conferences after games, someone’s sticking a microphone under your nose as soon as you come off the pitch, you’ve had a bad day and the last thing you want to do is be asked questions. But that is the job now.”
During his tenure, Klopp challenged the dominating Manchester City under one of the greatest managers, Pep Guardiola. The Citizens are facing 115 charges of financial breaches for the past 10 years.
Furthermore, the 56-year-old has to contend with poor refereeing, Premier League scheduling and continuous media interferences. The British media’s relationship with the club is historically very poor and they do not give reasons to rectify that.
