Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney highlights the strength in the Liverpool squad to remain a formidable threat for the title chase

Fulham star Tom Cairney acknowledged the strength of the Liverpool squad, outlining their level of consistency as “frightening.” The 33-year-old clashed three times with the Reds so far this season, losing twice and earning a home draw.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp used the summer transfer window to revamp the squad by adding multiple midfielders. The 56-year-old let go of many aged long-serving players who reached past their prime years after last season’s struggle.

Despite the limited transfer budget compared to other big clubs, the Reds have continued doing shrewd transfer business. They bought high-quality players with lots of potential at a decent price rate, exploiting release clauses and other situations.

Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table but Arsenal and Manchester City are closely behind them. The Reds could have been further ahead in the Premier League but inconsistent refereeing and use of VAR proved costly.

Liverpool are also taking every cup competition seriously, having progressed in the FA Cup and the Europa League. The Reds are also playing Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on 25th February.

Speaking on the Footballer’s Football podcast, Cairney praised the quality of Liverpool’s current squad and the consistency they have shown. He said:

“I think that game at the weekend was huge for Arsenal, I think that’s why the celebrations were so big. In my opinion if they had lost that game I don’t think they would have much chance of catching Liverpool, I can’t see them losing three or four more games until the end of the season with the squad they have got, it’s frightening. So I think you could tell how big it was for Arsenal. Arsenal will be up there but I think it’s Liverpool or Man City’s.”

Liverpool defeated Fulham 4-3 in a dramatic Premier League victory at Anfield on the third of December. They clashed again during the Carabao Cup semi-final ties where the Reds beat Fulham 2-1 in the first leg. Fulham restricted Liverpool to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the Carabao Cup tie as the Reds progressed further.
