Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provides an injury update after the Brentford win

In the aftermath of Liverpool FC’s 4-1 victory over Brentford, Jurgen Klopp addressed concerns over injuries sustained by Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota during the match, expressing apprehension about the severity of their conditions.

Both players saw themselves forced off the pitch in the first half, compounding Liverpool’s worries. Darwin Nunez also exited the game early, albeit as a precautionary measure due to a minor knock.

Klopp provided insights into the nature of the injuries, revealing that Curtis Jones suffered a knock to the lower part of his shin, above the ankle. Despite his determination, Jones was unable to continue playing, indicating the seriousness of the injury. Klopp noted that Jones was seen leaving the stadium on crutches, which is a standard precautionary measure for such injuries.

Curtis Jones is a key player for Liverpool and it will be a tough task to replace his presence in the midfield.

Here is what Klopp had to say about the trio of players via ECHO:

“Curtis got a knock on the lower part of his shin, above the ankle. We will see what that means. It’s what he felt but he wasn’t 100% sure. That Curtis cannot play on tells you it must be something because he would have played on at all costs actually.”

“Yeah (he’s on crutches), but that’s normal. I’ve not spoken to him, I don’t have time. I get carried around the stadium for interviews!”

“I don’t know how it developed during the second half. I saw him at half-time and it was alright-ish but I don’t know what happened since then.”

“Diogo looks probably the worst. I didn’t see it back but I heard the pictures didn’t look great. We have to see there.”

“Darwin, we took off because he said he feels something a little. Today that was enough to immediately push the brake and that’s what we did.”

More injuries

Regarding Diogo Jota, Klopp expressed greater concern, stating that the Portuguese forward’s injury appeared to be the most severe. Jota was stretchered off the field after a collision with Brentford’s Christian Norgaard, and initial reports suggested that the images of the incident were not promising. Klopp admitted that he hadn’t had the chance to review the footage but acknowledged the seriousness of the situation.

In contrast, Darwin’s substitution was a preventive measure, as he reported feeling discomfort. Klopp emphasized the importance of prioritizing player safety, especially when dealing with potential injuries.

The uncertainty surrounding the extent of Jones and Jota’s injuries has left Klopp and Liverpool facing an anxious wait for further assessments. The manager remained hopeful but acknowledged the need for caution and proper diagnosis before determining the players’ availability for future fixtures. As we head into an extremely crucial junction of the season, we surely cannot afford to suffer any more injury issues, but we have to live with it.
