Liverpool new boy ready to make the most of Anfield opportunity as injuries threaten to derail season

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is grateful for the consistent opportunities that he has received at the club

Ryan Gravenberch shared the importance of playing regularly as congested fixtures at Liverpool provide him ample opportunities to feature. Gravenberch joined the Reds from Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window after struggling to gain game time there.

Despite his age and immense qualities, the Dutchman struggled with opportunities at Bayern and eventually opted to leave the club. Liverpool seized the chance of signing a quality midfielder in Gravenberch for a bargain price in the inflated market.

The 21-year-old has shown his ability in glimpses but he stepped up during the Premier League game against Brentford. Liverpool beat the Bees 1-4 in the away game to remain at the top of the Premier League table.

Gravenberch came on for an injured Curtis Jones in the 34th minute of the game, dictating the possession for Liverpool. He has made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Reds this season, contributing with three goals and two assists.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Gravenberch emphasised that he is enjoying more opportunities at Liverpool due to the congested fixture. He said:

“I’m feeling good. If I am honest, I’m really looking forward to the game on Wednesday, especially after the game on Saturday. I’m really looking forward to it. You see it now, unfortunately Curtis is now injured and hopefully he will be back as soon as possible. But now, for me, I have the chance again to show myself and to show my qualities. If I’m honest, as a player I prefer to play games than training! So, I’m very happy that we have every three or four days a game. Of course, it’s hard but I think as a player you prefer to play games so it’s better.”

Liverpool are challenging for every competition and that ambition has added more fixtures to this season’s calendar. Furthermore, they have struggled with an injury crisis with many senior team members sidelined for a long duration.

The Dutchman provides something different to the team with his ability to make long driving runs from midfield. He has close control, agility and balance alongside athleticism which gives him an advantage over the others.
