Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott shared his delight for scoring a goal in front of the Kop during his 100th appearance
Harvey Elliott scored a fantastic goal against Luton Town in front of the Kop during his 100th appearance for Liverpool. He shared his delight as a boyhood fan of Liverpool to mark his achievement with style and ensuring three points.
Liverpool are facing a daunting task to fulfil their season’s ambition as the squad is suffering from several injuries. Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Alisson Becker, Stefen Bajcetic, Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai are long-term absentees.
Furthermore, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez faced exclusion from the matchday squad against the Hatters and are under observation. The dwindling number puts pressure on the limited number of players that are available to fight against the odds. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also added several youngsters from Liverpool Academy to make up the numbers for the matchday squad.
Elliott has solidified his place in the senior team squad under Klopp at a young age, achieving numerous appearances. The England U21 has the versatility to play as a central midfielder, right winger and the attacking midfield role.
Klopp has deployed him in several roles this season according to the tactics and to compensate for the losses. The 20-year-old has made 34 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing with two goals and three assists so far.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the game, Harvey shared his delight for marking his 100th appearance with a spectacular goal. He said:
“The best possible way and on top of that the three points as well. There is no better feeling than scoring a goal [in front of] the Kop but today was that extra bit special on my 100th appearance. It has just been an amazing journey so far and long may it continue. It is all down to the gaffer and the coaching staff for putting the trust in me. I’m just very thankful for the opportunities that I’ve been getting from them and I want to give it my all for them, for the team, for the club as well.”
Furthermore, the 20-year-old highlighted his ambition to make further landmark appearances and given his age, he could achieve more. He added:
“To reach 100 appearances for my boyhood club, it’s amazing but I don’t want to stop now. I want to keep going, I want to get 200, 300 in my career here.
20 – Aged 20, Harvey Elliott tonight was the youngest player on record (from 2008-09) to score, have 5+ shots (5), create 5+ chances (7), have 10+ touches in the opposition's box (17) and make 25+ passes ending in the final 1/3 (27) in a Premier League game. Everywhere. pic.twitter.com/FSBemDhuid
