Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister highlights his hunger to win more trophies after his World Cup victory with Argentina
Alexis Mac Allister wants to win trophies for Liverpool after the World Cup victory with Argentina raised his appetite. Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton in the summer as part of the midfield revamp under Jurgen Klopp.
The 25-year-old settled immediately, playing a pivotal role in the club’s success this season as they challenge for every trophy. Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table, and they have progressed in every cup competition.
The injury-ravaged Reds will play Chelsea in the Carabao Cup finals at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. The Argentinian has to play a significant role to have any chance of success given the predicament they face.
Mac Allister shared his ambition with the Guardian, highlighting the World Cup success that raised his appetite for trophies. He said:
“The World Cup helped me to realise that I really want to win more trophies and so Sunday is a big opportunity. It is what I wanted when I signed for the club. It will be my first final with Liverpool so it is going to be something very special for me and the team.”
The 25-year-old has adapted quickly to Liverpool’s philosophy, endearing himself to the Kopites in the process. He expressed that the feeling is mutual and the strong bond between him and Liverpool fanbase has helped him settle. He added:
“It is crazy because since the first day here I really felt a connection that I have not felt at any other club. At the other clubs it was more about the time it took to settle. Here, from the first day, the people here helped me settle in well.”
Klopp has deployed Mac Allister in the deep midfield role, a departure from his position at Brighton. The Liverpool boss made this decision to allow defensive midfielder Wataru Endo enough time to adapt to the new league.
Alexis Mac Allister has provided 2+ assists in a single game for the first time in his Premier League career.
