Liverpool are scheduled to face Chelsea later today in the Carabao Cup finals. The Reds from Merseyside go into the game as favourites to win the League Cup.
Chelsea are coming into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Manchester City. They have had an inconsistent season under Mauricio Pochettino. Chelsea are tenth in the Premier League table going into the finals.
This is the third time both the clubs will meet in a domestic cup finals in the last three seasons. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool won both of the previous two. The League Cup and FA Cup finals in 2022. Going into the Carabao Cup final both the teams are carrying injury concerns. Injuries have been the talk of the newspapers leading into the finals.
Chelsea are given an advantage because of a bizarre rule as per Liverpool Echo. Chelsea will be the home team in the League Cup final. The Londoners were the home side in both of the 2022 finals.
The home advantage is handed to the Blues because the team that comes first in the alphabetical order gets to be the ‘home’ team. This means the London side will get to tent in the home dressing room for the titanic clash in London.
Liverpool both of the clash against them irrespective of them being the home team. It could just be time to do a hat-trick of cup final wins over ‘home’ team Chelsea. After all, Anfield South is a place we are familiar with having made the trip down to London several times.
Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are also topping the Premier League table and they are also in the Round of 16s of the Europa League beyond today’s final. Klopp will be looking to end his stint in-charge of Liverpool on a high with silverware in the bag.
