Jurgen Klopp expressed that a miracle for some injured Liverpool players would be helpful amid the increasing injury crisis. The Reds defeated Chelsea 1-0 in the Carabao Cup final to achieve their first trophy of the season.
However, Liverpool suffered more injury after Ryan Gravenberch suffered a bad tackle from Moises Caicedo in the first half. Wataru Endo also suffered a minor injury and left the Wembley Stadium on crutches, adding more selection headache for Klopp.
Liverpool are already without important players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones. Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic have missed most of the season and they are still a long-term doubt.
Furthermore, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai are under observation, having missed the Carabao Cup finals. Liverpool’s Academy players have done a great job filling in for the injured players, making strong arguments about their ability.
Nevertheless, the injury crisis alongside the congested fixture has threatened the impressive ambition of chasing the quadruple. Liverpool plays Southampton next in the FA Cup clash as they played midweek before the Carabao Cup final.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference (h/t BBC), Klopp acknowledged the situation surrounding injured players requires somewhat of a miracle. He said:
“Ryan is not available. It could have been worse, but it is bad enough to rule him out of this game and the next game. We shall see. We need miracles for a few players, so I don’t want to rule them out for too long. But it is touch and go with a lot of the boys who were not available for the final.”
The Reds are also at the top of the Premier League table but the margin for error is too low. Manchester City and Arsenal are right behind them and they have fared much better in the injury department. The two teams have enjoyed fewer fixtures after getting early elimination from the Carabao Cup. The Reds need their important senior team players to return as we reach the season’s last stages.
