Liverpool have some good news ahead of their game against Manchester City at Anfield in March. The Reds will look to maintain their good form and retain top spot in the Premier League as we near crunch time in the title race.
The Merseysiders have a lot of their own injury concerns that they have to adhere to but Manchester City are facing race against time for getting Jack Grealish fit for the game against Liverpool. The English star has grown in prominence under Pep Guardiola and his absence will be a blow for the defending champions.
The 28-year-old sustained a groin injury on Tuesday night in Manchester City’s FA Cup match which they won 6-2 win against Luton Town. The extent of the injury remains unclear and it remains to be seen if eh will recover in time. With just days to go before the clash, the best he can hope for is a spot on the bench.
Grealish came off for Jeremy Doku in the thirty-eight minute in the 6-2 game against Luton Town. A rather clutch player, his ability to make a difference off the bench offers Guardiola several options. Robbing him off another arrow in his quiver will only be a boost to Liverpool, given their own missing stars.
It looked like ‘Grealish is Back’ as Pep Guardiola expressed before the game against Luton Town. Pep Guardiola spoke about how the England international will be given an opportunity to improve and get his rhythm right ahead of Manchester City’s upcoming fixtures. Jack has been very inconsistent for Manchester City in the first half of the ongoing campaign and he hasn’t looked like his old self.
Speaking about Grealish’s injury against Luton Town, Pep Guardiola said in his post match press conference via Manchester Evening News:
“I didn’t speak to doctors but I think he complained a bit about the groin. Maybe a little bit similar. He felt really good but unfortunately was injured again at the beginning of the game. It’s been a tough season for him, has to recover well and help us when he’s able to come back.”
Grealish will likely miss the game against Manchester United at the weekend and will face a race against time to be fit for the Liverpool game. Either way, it is unlikely that he will be at his best anytime soon.
