Jayden Danns expressed his feeling of being “in a movie” after grabbing two goals for Liverpool in the FA Cup. Liverpool beat Southampton 3-0 in the fifth round of the FA Cup to successfully progress into the quarter-finals.
The Reds won the Carabao Cup after beating a costly Chelsea side with their much inexperienced Academy players. They are currently facing a serious injury crisis that has sidelined numerous senior team players at the crucial stage.
Nevertheless, the Academy youngsters have lived up to the failure shown by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp during the current turmoil. The injury crisis is threatening to undo all the hard work that Liverpool have done throughout this season.
The Reds are currently at the top of the Premier League, closely followed by Manchester City and Arsenal. Furthermore, they have successfully progressed in the Europa League and now the FA Cup as well.
Academy players like Danns have kept alive the impressive ambition of challenging for the quadruple. The 18-year-old’s two goals against Southampton ensured the victory after Lewis Koumas provided a first-half lead during the game.
Danns shared his delight to ITV Sport (h/t Liverpoolfc.com) post-match, explaining what it means to score for his childhood club. He said:
“It’s a dream come true, I’ve supported the club since I was young, since birth, so to come on and score at the Kop end – it’s unreal. It doesn’t feel real to me. It feels like I’m in a movie. I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight.”
The England U18 has been prolific for the Reds at the academy level, showcasing excellent technique and composure. He has made 17 appearances for the academy in various competitions, contributing with 16 goals and four assists.
Standing at 1.83 metres, Danns is already comfortable with the physicality and the pace of the top-most league. The 18-year-old has displayed a sound mentality, linking up well with his teammates and making the right movements in the threatening spaces.
Danns has a long road ahead to hone his raw skills and abilities but the youngster has shown immense promise. Being a childhood Liverpool fan, the goals should act as a major motivator for him as he continues to develop.
