Liverpool keen to tie down first XI star amidst Bundesliga interest

Liverpool are planning to offer a new contract to left-back Andy Robertson amid the interest from Bayern Munich

Liverpool wants to open new contract talk with left-back Andy Robertson and secure his future amid interest from Bayern Munich. Robertson has been a pivotal part of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s squad since joining the club from Hull City.

In January, Klopp announced that he was stepping back from the managerial role at the end of the season. The announcement opened up a flood of rumours about long-serving players and their future at the club.

The Scotland captain has continued his role as the first-choice left-back for the Reds this season despite facing injuries. The 29-year-old is also one of the leaders of the locker-room with immense experience and leadership qualities.

Robertson has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing with one goal and an assist until now. His contract expires on June 30, 2026 (h/t Transfermarkt), which leaves ample amount of time for the Reds to hold negotiations.

The Scotland captain missed a huge chunk of fixtures due to a shoulder injury this season during the October international break. Kostas Tsimikas took the first-team role in his absence until he suffered an injury against Arsenal in December.

Klopp used Joe Gomez as a make-shift left-back in the absence of his specialist left-backs until Robertson returned. The Scotsman has delivered strong performances while rotating with Tsimikas regularly to avoid any further injury.

Fichajes reported that Liverpool are ready to offer a new contract to Robertson as Bayern look to swoop in. The 29-year-old is a vital part of the squad and he could play a critical role when Klopp’s successor arrives.

Liverpool could face a few changes under the new manager next season but everything is only a matter of speculation right now. The Reds would want to appoint a sporting director and a new manager before they decide the squad changes. The senior team has the fluidity and versatility to play under any potential tactical approach that a new manager would use.
