Michael Edwards could soon be back at Liverpool as FSG edges closer to signing a deal

As reported by The Athletic, Michael Edwards is close to signing a deal with FSG that would give him a senior role at Liverpool. The former Reds executive would start to overlook operations at the club. If he arrives at Anfield, Richard Hughes will follow to fill up the sporting director position at Liverpool. Big changes have been set in motion ever since Jurgen Klopp announced that he would be stepping down.

Losing the German coach is already a big blow, but Klopp’s close staff will also be leaving along with him. Liverpool have enjoyed a large amount of success over the past decade. A lot of that is owed to Klopp and the amazing players he’s had over the years.

While one Anfield man will be leaving, another will be arriving if Michael Edwards signs on with FSG. With this out of the way, the only missing piece will be a new manager.

As things stand, Xabi Alonso is the clear favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. The Bayer Leverkusen manager has shown his ability to lead his team to success. His team is currently on top of the Bundesliga table ten points ahead of Bayern Munich.

With Alonso, Edwards, and Richard Hughes in the backroom of Liverpool, their rebuild will be complete. Signing such excellent executives will be a fine way to kick off the post Jurgen Klopp era.
