BBC Pundit Chris Sutton predicts a 3-1 win for Liverpool over Man United in the FA Cup
As Liverpool gear up for their FA Cup quarter-final showdown against Manchester United, anticipation is certainly running high among fans as they eagerly await what promises to be a thrilling encounter at Old Trafford.
With a place in the semi-finals up for grabs and the prospect of a return to Wembley on the horizon, the stakes could surely not be higher for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they seek to add more silverware to their trophy cabinet in his final season at the helm.
The rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United is undoubtedly one of the fiercest in English football, and Sunday’s clash is sure to be no exception. There will be no love lost between the two sides on the night in what should be Jurgen Klopp’s penultimate trip to the Theatre of Dreams as Liverpool boss.
Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has weighed in with his predictions for the match, backing Liverpool to emerge victorious over their rivals. Despite Manchester United’s recent success against Liverpool and their ability to grind out results in key matches, Sutton believes that Klopp’s side has the edge, particularly with key players like Mohamed Salah returning to full fitness. Here is what he had to say via BBC Sport:
“Liverpool are getting key players like Mohamed Salah back to full fitness and if they turn up and perform like they did in the second half against Manchester City last weekend, then they are going to win – no doubt about it. There is some good news for United because their striker Rasmus Hojlund is going to be back from injury, and starting the game by all accounts.”
“That is massive for them and gives them a far greater chance of getting through, but if Liverpool are anywhere near their best they will still have too much for them.”
As Sutton rightly points out, if Liverpool can replicate the second-half performance against Man City against United, Erik ten Hag can put in his notice. In Sutton’s prediction, he foresees a 3-1 win for Liverpool, highlighting their attacking prowess and ability to capitalise on their opponents’ defensive vulnerabilities.
While United may pose a threat, especially with the home advantage and the return of key players, Sutton, like most of the Reds’ fanbase believes that Liverpool’s quality and determination will shine through on the day.
