PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko becomes the top transfer target for Liverpool and Chelsea
According to the Metro, Bakayoko’s cost is between €50 million and €60 million, with Chelsea and Liverpool competing for his signature. French champions PSG and German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund are keeping an eye on Bakayoko’s position.
The 20-year-old Belgian international spent his whole professional career at Dutch club PSV, having come up via their junior academy. He can play as a winger or forward and has impressed in the Eredivisie this season, with six goals and eight assists in 25 games.
Bakayoko scored in PSV’s 1-1 Champions League draw with Lens earlier this season, and he also played in both group games against Arsenal. Last season, Bakayoko helped PSV win the KNVB Cup and was voted Eredivisie Talent of the Month on several occasions.
According to Voetbalkrant, Anfield is expressing “concrete interest” in Bakayoko, 20, whose present value is roughly around €50 million and who has a contract until 2026. PSV resisted cashing in on their best potential this winter, and a great performance in the Euros might increase his value even further.
He looks set to land an Eredivisie title this term, with PSV currently sitting 10 points clear at the top of the Dutch top-flight table. Liverpool could be looking for new attackers next summer, but the club probably won’t reveal their genuine targets until the ownership selects a new sporting director and manager.
PSV director’s views on Bakayoka’s transfer
Speaking to the Dutch television show Studio Voetbal, when asked if he thought Bakayoko would be at the Philips Stadion next season, Stewart said:
“No, I don’t think so. What Johan is doing at his age is fantastic. He played 30 top matches before the winter break, including international matches with Belgium.”
The PSV director understands that other clubs would notice the outstanding performance of the 20-year-old and would be making bids. He does not want to say how much the 20-year-old wing attacker has to earn.
