Manchester City legend admits he would have wanted to play for Jurgen Klopp

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero admits he would have liked to play under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

According to Stake (h/t Manchester Evening News), Sergio Aguero, the former Manchester City striker, expressed admiration for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, stating his desire to have played under the German tactician. Klopp’s impending departure at the end of the season marks the end of his rivalry with Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, which has defined an era in football management.

Despite winning fewer titles than Guardiola, Klopp has achieved remarkable success at Liverpool, competing at the highest level without the same financial resources. His departure will leave a significant void at Anfield, as his charismatic leadership and tactical acumen have been instrumental in Liverpool’s rise to prominence in recent years.

Replacing Klopp will be a daunting task for Liverpool, as finding a manager of his calibre and impact will not be easy. His departure marks the end of an era and leaves a lasting legacy in English football, regardless of who succeeds him at Liverpool.

The Argentine praising Klopp

Aguero remains confident in Manchester City’s ability to clinch the Premier League title by securing a victory against Arsenal this weekend. Despite his allegiance to Manchester City, Aguero also expressed admiration for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, revealing that he would have relished the opportunity to play under the German tactician.

The Argentine told Stake:

“Terrific manager, Klopp has certainly elevated Liverpool, allowing them to become a protagonist of the Premier League in recent years. He’s made them more aggressive, more intense in their playing style.”

“New players have arrived and Jurgen has managed to adapt them to this offensive mentality. He’ll be sorely missed in the Premier League… but he’s made his choice, and it’s up to us to respect it.”

“Any great manager will teach you many valuable things. It would have been a great experience for sure to play under Klopp.”

During his illustrious tenure in the Premier League from 2011 to 2021, Sergio Aguero often left Merseyside hearts broken with his formidable performances. Pretty ironic given that he grew up as a Reds fan.

Aguero’s honest statement

Aguero’s acknowledgement of Klopp’s significant impact on Liverpool is undeniably accurate. Klopp’s tenure has elevated Liverpool to new heights, solidifying his status as an elite coach. As he exits the Premier League, his legacy will endure, leaving behind a formidable team for his successor.

The next manager at Liverpool will undoubtedly face a daunting challenge in maintaining Klopp’s achievements. However, they will inherit a team forged by the German’s leadership and vision, providing a solid foundation for future success.
