Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp highlighted that winning the game comes before looking to improve the goal difference against Sheffield United

Jurgen Klopp insisted that Liverpool needs to make sure they win before thinking about the goal difference against Sheffield United. The Reds are currently second in the Premier League but a win against Sheffield will take them to the top.

Arsenal sits at the top of the table after beating Luton Town 2-0 in the Premier League game on Wednesday. The Gunners have a big advantage in the goal difference in case it becomes a factor in deciding the title.

They currently have a goal difference of 48 while Liverpool have a goal difference of 40. It will become a factor if both teams end the season with a similar point tally, giving a firm advantage to Arsenal.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insisted that winning is the only priority against Sheffield United.

However, if Liverpool manages to win the Sheffield game, they will be two points ahead of Arsenal. The situation leaves a lot of possibility and a big conundrum for the Reds boss amid the congested fixture period.

Speaking to the reporters (h/t Liverpool Echo), Klopp rejected the idea that the Sheffield game is ideal to reduce the goal difference. He said:

“Goal difference? No, definitely not. I want to win the game first – the result I’m not bothered about at the moment. It’s a little bit difficult. Sheffield are in their best spell probably in the last two games (2-2 draw at Bournemouth and 3-3 at home to Fulham) and they’ve been a bit unlucky with the results maybe, I don’t know I didn’t see the full games.”

Liverpool have enjoyed a tremendous season, showing consistency despite the injury crisis and extraneous factors that acted against them. They have faced issues with Premier League match scheduling and numerous officiating errors against them throughout this season.

Nevertheless, the only issues they have faced are complacency and last composure in front of goals. Liverpool have the Europa League competition matches with the hopes of playing five games which includes the final.

Liverpool cannot take anyone lightly as only nine games remain in the Premier League while they’re mathematically two points ahead. Klopp has taken every game seriously this season instead of thinking about the next game and that tactic has been successful for the Reds.
