Liverpool are preparing to beat Manchester United and sign Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong during the upcoming summer transfer window
Bayer Leverkusen right-wingback Jeremie Frimpong is a transfer target for both Liverpool and Manchester United for the upcoming transfer window. Frimpong has played a pivotal role for Leverkusen this season as they have continued their impressive unbeaten run in Europe.
Standing at 1.71 metres, Frimpong has a low centre of gravity that keeps him balanced when he participates in duels. The 23-year-old has close control and impressive dribbling ability combined with incredible pace to go past several opponents with ease.
He has the deceptive strength to shield the ball and use it to regain possession when the team is defending. The Dutch international can play at any defensive and offensive position on the right-hand side, using his stamina and pace.
Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso deploys Frimpong as a right-wingback and uses him as a main attacking outlet from that position. The 23-year-old can use the width and stretch the opponents or cut inside, interchanging position with a right-sided attacking midfielder.
Frimpong has made 35 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen, scoring 12 goals and producing 11 assists this season. Football Insider reported that Liverpool are planning to sign Frimpong before Man United and Arsenal during the upcoming summer window.
Frimpong has a £35 million buyout clause which is very cheap considering his quality and impressive form this season. Liverpool have used the release clause shrewdly to sign important players like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this season.
They can use similar tactics to uphold their reputation as a wise navigator of the transfer market. Frimpong fits the profile that they desire and his cheap buyout clause is a bonus for the Reds.
Liverpool have vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley for the right-back position, both capable of contributing in attack. Nevertheless, Trent is gradually shifting towards a central role and securing the right wing would allow that transition.
