Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp asserts that the club is keen to win the Europa League
Jurgen Klopp claimed that Liverpool are competing in the Europa League intending to win the competition this season. Klopp has won every competition in which Liverpool participated under him during his tenure apart from the Europa League.
The 56-year-old announced that he is stepping back from the managerial role after the end of the current season. Klopp cited the feeling of burnout as the reason for him to take such a drastic decision surprising everyone.
The German is a beloved figure at Anfield and the majority of the fanbase is sad about the sudden decision. However, they understand that the physical and mental well-being of Klopp comes first and they accept his decision.
During his pre-match press conference (h/t Liverpoolfc.com), Klopp asserted that the Reds are eager to win the Europa League. He said:
“From the moment we saw the chance to get into the Europa League, we were really desperate to do so and you only do that when you are Liverpool because you want to win the competition. But for that you have to do all the necessary steps [and] obviously there are now only great teams left in the competition.”
Klopp has won the Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup twice with Liverpool. Furthermore, he has also won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup with Liverpool during his tenure.
However, the 56-year-old has not won the Europa League competition despite reaching the finals in his very first season. Liverpool appointed Klopp as their manager in the middle of the 2015-2016 season, inhering a weak squad from Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool lost 3-1 to Sevilla in that season’s Europa League final despite dramatically reaching there after beating several clubs. The Reds defeated Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund in the dramatic ties while beating Villarreal in the semi-finals.

Under Klopp, Liverpool have not participated in the Europa League competition until this season which happens to be his last. The very European title that left his grasp during his first season at Liverpool when he started to turn doubters into believers.
