Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher asks Jurgen Klopp to sabotage the second leg of the Europa League for the Premier League
Jamie Carragher told Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to forget the Europa League and focus on the Premier League title race. Liverpool lost 0-3 to Atalanta in the first leg of the Europa League after putting their worst performance this season.
The recurring problem with complacency all over the pitch has cost Liverpool during the final stages of this season. After dominating the first half of the game against Manchester United in the Premier League, Liverpool self-sabotaged their lead.
The Reds drew their bitter Manchester rivals 2-2 despite having numerous chances to wrap up the game immediately. Liverpool fans expected the team to bounce back against Atalanta but the same mistakes repeated during the clash.
Atalanta showed more proficiency and punished Liverpool for every complacent mistake they made during the game. They need to score four goals without conceding away in the second leg to win the quarter-finals within 90 minutes.
Carragher wrote on his official X account that Klopp should focus on the Premier League while sabotaging the second leg. He said:
“Awful result & performance from Liverpool, the only consolation about getting beat so heavily is Jurgen should play a full second string in the second leg & go all in for the league!”
The Reds have shown poor composure in front of goal, making wayward shots without conviction and concentration. At the same time, they leave spaces in defensive phases for the opponents to exploit and punish them.
Despite having the counter-pressing system, the players that are not in the pressing area lose concentration to organize themselves quickly. Furthermore, the buildup play from the back has slowed down immensely in the last two games, wasting too much time.
