Liverpool receive a massive injury boost as Stefan Bajcetic returned from his long-term injury to play in U21 match

Stefan Bajcetic provided a massive injury boost after returning to action from a long-term injury to play for Liverpool U21. Liverpool U21 beat Manchester United U21 3-0 in the Premier League 2 match involving impressive performances from numerous academy players.

Bajcetic last played Leicester City in the Carabao Cup third round 3-1 victory as a right-back on 27th September 2023. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp allowed the young Spaniard to recover fully from the calf injury and build his physique.

Despite his immense talents and maturity to play at the senior level, he requires proper game management due to his age. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has exercised caution to make sure that no long-term complications erupt by pushing him too early.

The 19-year-old produced impressive performances in the previous season when Liverpool struggled in midfield which ruined their season’s ambitions. Bajcetic showed impressive game intelligence, good decision-making and elegant technical qualities on the ball as a defensive midfielder.

The Spaniard returned to the senior squad as an unused substitute in the Europa League loss against Atalanta on Thursday. However, Bajcetic made his long-awaited return (h/t Liverpoolfc.com) after coming on as a substitute for Liverpool U21 on Friday night.

The Spaniard came on in the 59th minute of the game when Liverpool U21 led Man United U21 1-0. The 19-year-old produced a sharp performance for a player who missed about eight months of action, marshalling the midfield.

He made several interceptions and tackles but some of his direct passes lacked precision despite showing impressive vision. Bajcetic intercepted a pass from an opponent, turning that into a backheel pass to Kaide Gordon for the second goal.

Whether Bajcetic would feature for the senior team in the remaining fixture is speculative. Nevertheless, the 19-year-old is a massive boost for the squad and a strong deputy to Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister for the number-six role
