Liverpool are ready to battle Bayern Munich and Arsenal to lure Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen during the upcoming summer
Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Arsenal want on-form Bayer Leverkusen star Alejandro Grimaldo during the upcoming summer transfer window. Grimaldo has played a pivotal role for Leverkusen under manager Xabi Alonso, enjoying a successful season with the German club.
The German side is currently the only team in the European big leagues that is unbeaten in all competitions. Leverkusen signed Grimaldo from Benfica during the summer of 2023 as he fit the profile that Xabi desired.
The left-attacking wingback has brilliant control of the ball and the ability to distribute accurate passes. He makes intelligent runs from the left side, contributing immensely to the overall style of play of the German club.
Leverkusen plays a 3-4-2-1 formation whereas Grimaldo plays as the left-attacking wingback in a fluid role with complete freedom. The 28-year-old uses game intelligence and his playmaking ability to interchange positions with the left-attacking midfielder.
He can drop as an inverted wingback to dictate the game in the attacking phases or run down the byline. Furthermore, the Spanish international has used a well-timed run to act as an inside forward to score many crucial goals.
The 28-year-old has scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists for Leverkusen in all competitions from 41 appearances this season. Grimaldo has credited Alonso for his impressive season and he has continued to contribute consistently for the club.
Fichajes reported that Liverpool, Bayern and Arsenal want to sign Grimaldo and bolster their squad with his all-round qualities. However, the chances of the Spaniard leaving the club are very bleak as he is thoroughly enjoying football under Alonso.
Liverpool have Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas as their two natural specialist left-back in the senior team. Both players have struggled with injuries and inconsistencies this season that has contributed to many rumours about their future.
