Ruben Amorim has been heavily linked to Liverpool in recent days. The Sporting CP manager is currently the favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp at the helm of the Reds. The original favourite was former Liverpool midfielder, Xabi Alonso.
However, the Spanish coach says he will be spending another season in the Bundesliga. Following his announcement there was a lot of talk suggesting that Amorim has reached a verbal agreement with the Reds. However, the Sporting CP boss was quick to deny the reports and said no agreement has been reached.
Now Amorim has once again given his thoughts on the future and says his cycle with Sporting CP isn’t fully done yet. Let’s have a look at what the 39-year-old manager had to say while speaking to Record.
“A cycle has not yet ended and that depends on the characteristics of each one and on each other’s lives,”
“I don’t feel like I’ve finished a cycle, I feel like I want to keep going so this isn’t over yet, we want to win and keep moving forward.”
The Sporting CP fans also don’t want to see Amorim leave and have recently taken to the stands with posters saying “Stay Amorim!”. While Ruben says his cycle at Sporting CP isn’t done yet, it could also mean that he’s not ready for the next step.
Liverpool is not a small club and being at the helm will be a whole different world than whatever the 39-year-old has experienced with Sporting CP. While he says his cycle isn’t done he still can’t be counted out as a successor for Jurgen Klopp.
It mirrors what Xabi Alonso chose to do earlier this season. The Spaniard was a favourite for the Reds’ job but revealed his desire to complete the job at Bayer Leverkusen. It would appear even Amorim is thinking along the same lines.
Things are getting desperate as ever for the Reds as they have failed to lock anyone down and the season is almost over. It’ll be interesting to see what becomes of Anfield during the post-Jurgen Klopp era.
