Major setback for Liverpool as defender sustains ankle injury

Liverpool defender Conor Bradley ruled out for up to three weeks with an ankle injury

It’s unfortunate news for Conor Bradley and Liverpool that he sustained an ankle injury during their recent match against Crystal Palace. Ankle injuries can be tricky, and it’s understandable that Liverpool would want to take their time with his recovery to ensure he doesn’t aggravate the injury further.

With him potentially missing the remainder of April (h/t Eurosport), it could indeed be a race against time for him to recover before the season concludes. Hopefully, he receives the necessary treatment and rehabilitation to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.

In the meantime, Liverpool will have to rely on other players to step up in his absence, like Trent Alexander-Arnold, who took Bradley’s place during the match.

Jurgen Klopp’s say on the situation

After the match, manager Jurgen Klopp bemoaned his injury, saying Bradley’s absence was just the latest inconvenience for the German. He had been attempting to make a tackle when he suffered the issue.

Jurgen Klopp said in the post-match interview:

“How it is on these days, something like that happens as well. Conor overstretched his foot slightly. The first moment and what Conor felt didn’t look great, now I heard a little bit that it’s settled quite quickly.”

“I don’t know. Is the ligament damaged or not? I don’t know, so we will get this information tomorrow or Tuesday, but it was very painful for him so that’s not cool.”

Bradley was sent for further assessment by the Reds after the defeat. With a spell now on the sidelines, he could very well miss a chunk of the Reds’ 2023-24 campaign.

Bradley was in pain

Bradley, who has made 22 appearances across all competitions, has been a vital member of Liverpool’s squad this season, tallying six assists and one goal. He has been a surprise performer at a time when the Reds appeared to be overwhelmed by injuries.

Bradley’s injury will indeed sideline him for several important fixtures for Liverpool. Missing the Europa League quarterfinal second leg against Atalanta, the match against Fulham, the Merseyside Derby against Everton, and the fixture against West Ham on April 27 will undoubtedly be a blow for both Bradley and the team.

More Liverpool news

The timing of Alexander-Arnold’s comeback couldn’t be more ideal for Liverpool. Bradley has had a tremendous season at Anfield, and he was expected to contribute significantly to the remainder of the campaign. Hopefully, he can get better in time to play a couple more games before the season ends.
