Turkish giants set their sights on Liverpool star; potential summer exit on the cards

Turkish side Galatasaray are planning a shock transfer move for Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch

Galatasaray are targeting out-of-favour Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch to bolster their squad during the upcoming summer transfer window. Gravenberch has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular at Liverpool this season, generally used behind several midfielders.

However, the 21-year-old has immense potential and age on his side despite his struggles with consistency and injuries. The Dutchman suffered an ankle injury in February and missed a few games in March due to it.

Gravenberch has played mostly as the left-central midfielder in the midfield three for the Reds this season. He has shown glimpses of his quality in some performances, but many find his preferred position and speciality confusing.

Gravenberch has supported the team in both the offensive and defensive phases of the game but lacks mastery in either. The Dutchman has made 34 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, contributing with three goals and two assists this season.

Liverpool signed Gravenberch from Bayern Munich for £34 million during the summer transfer window as a part of a midfield revamp. Jurgen Klopp highly rates him for his physique and technical abilities, seeing the potential for him to become a world-class player.

Nevertheless, Gravenberch has featured less in the latter stages of the season, raising doubts that Bayern camp made. Right now, he is behind Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones in the pecking order.

Turkish publication fotoMAC claimed that Gravenberch is a priority target for Galatasaray during the summer transfer window. It is unlikely that Liverpool will entertain any offer that falls short of what they have paid for the Dutchman.

Furthermore, Gravenberch might have a future at the club under the new manager who would succeed Klopp. Once the new manager is in place, Liverpool will likely make any transfer decisions and operate according to new tactics. Nevertheless, Gravenberch needs to decide whether he wants to be an offensive midfielder or a defensive midfielder to fulfil his potential.
