The Liverpool squad will undergo a reconstruction as three of their players are going to leave Anfield at the end of this season
According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, Adrian, Joel Matip, and Thiago Alcantara‘s contracts with Liverpool expire at the conclusion of the season; therefore, they will leave Anfield.
The Premier League giants will not offer the veteran trio new deals as they are not a crucial part of the club’s project going forward.
Adrian is Liverpool’s third-choice custodian, supporting Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher. The 37-year-old has been out of the squad this whole season, making just 26 appearances since joining Liverpool in 2019.
Joel Matip is a fan favourite at Anfield, but he has been out since before Christmas due to a major knee injury. Liverpool supporters would hate to see the star leave.
A sad ending for the injury-ridden star
Thiago is the most talented of the three but the midfielder is very injury-prone and has played only five minutes of the current campaign. Alcantara’s injury-ridden body has brought his talent down.
Thiago was only 29 years old and had years of playing at the highest level at Anfield. Liverpool paid a reasonable price for him. However, Thiago’s expected success at Liverpool never materialized—not because of his on-field play, but because of his body.
After suffering an injury against West Ham in April of last year, he was on the sidelines for the remainder of the campaign. After suffering another setback while making a surprising appearance in the 3-1 loss to Arsenal on February 4, he left the game and hasn’t been seen since.
