Jurgen Klopp insists Mohamed Salah is the best finisher at Liverpool
The 3-1 win against Fulham saw Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah drop to the bench with Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota coming into the XI in what were the only attacking changes from the 1-0 “win” against Atalanta midweek in the UEL. The win against the Cottagers was a big win for Jurgen Klopp.
Jota was on the scoresheet, Cody got an assist and won the MOTM. Our #20 showed top-class levels of composure to make it 3-1 in our favour. Composure. That is a word that has been making the rounds with Liverpool a lot in the last month or so. That is something Mo and Darwin have lacked in that time frame.
Reactionary calls are natural in football. Many [including the author] claimed that Jota is the most clinical of all players at Liverpool, and while that may be true, the boss thinks otherwise.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he had to say this when asked if Diogo was the most clinical player at the club.
“The best finisher in this club is obviously Mo Salah with some distance. It is just super-cool to have Diogo back, he can play all three positions up front. It is as important that Cody Gakpo is back. He wasn’t injured, but he was a little bit struggling. He is now fully back since three or four games. He is physically there, is extremely strong, keeps the ball and stuff like this, so that’s really helpful as well.”
Both are clinical!
Make no mistake, this is not saying Mohamed Salah is a bad finisher by any means. A player will not score goals for fun if he’s not a good finisher. Salah was going through a rough phase, that is how it is. All top players do, and for Mo, we can even let it pass. For god’s sake, he has been our only source of inspiration for so long.
Diogo on the other hand, is a world-class finisher. He is a very cool head and takes his time with shots. While there’s no doubt that most of the fanbase would rally behind Salah for consistent performances, if you need a clutch goal in a tense moment, Jota is your man. Tottenham at home last season, dare you forget that moment. A childish celebration followed, but that is the level of composure of the former Wolves man.
Let’s come back to the present. In the last few weeks of the season, we need everybody on their toes. Looking ahead, Klopp will need all his attacking options firing on all cylinders as Liverpool aim to secure the Premier League title.
Whether it’s Salah’s consistent brilliance or Jota’s knack for producing magical moments, the Reds have a wealth of talent at their disposal.
